Yoga Classes

My Concept of Yoga and what you can expect in a typical class

I believe that this science known as yoga is a wonderful tool to bring about positive change in ourselves and to understand ourselves better and help us to reach our true potential. One of the many definitions of Tantra is "to have one's heart touched", this to me is how I teach classes. I like to give my students an opportunity to have the tools of self empowerment, to live life more fully through not only using the asanas (postures) as tool to become more flexible, but also as a tool to develop our awareness and perceptions of our realities and challenges we find ourselves in. Yoga practice has many practices but one Intention, to access our Radiant Selves, in my classes we will not only use Asana to tone and become more flexible but also use Visualization, relaxation and breath, meditations techniques to help us fulfil this Radiant Self.

Classes are alignment based flow classes and meditation with attention to the individual student. Classes are well-rounded and focus on stretching and strengthening all aspects of the body. I hope students are able to develop the ability to develop an uplifting and consistent practice which they are able to do as a personal practice at home

What is Yoga?

Yoga literally means union or to yoke (bring together). It is a science of living that was developed in the Indus Valley thousands of years ago. Today most people associate yoga with the physical postures, but it is also a way to balance and revitalize the mind and body for a healthier lifestyle.

Although thousands of years old, Yoga philosophy is still relevant today. Why, you may ask. Well, inside each of us are the same intrinsic qualities which, when developed, bring a human being to a higher state of awareness. The direct experience of Yoga gives us an understanding of the meaning of our lives and an inner light to guide our own development.

Benefits of Yoga

Although you may have come to yoga to increase your flexibility, don’t be surprised to find that you are also sleeping more deeply then you have since high school, or able to concentrate more easily at work.  Once you begin to practice yoga regularly you are likely to notice many of the following common changes.

  • Happy or more joyful
  • Less aches and pains
  • Improvement in your other sport activities
  • Increased focus and concentration
  • More energy
  • Improved sleep
  • Calmer, quieter mind
  • Less mood swings

What is meditation?

Meditation is a process of stilling the mind. Through various techniques such as working with breath, visualization, and mantra, we focus the mind on something repetitive to quiet its incessant chatter. Meditation is available to students at any level and can be done for various periods of time.

What are the benefits of Yoga and Meditation?

  • Helps to alleviate stress and anxiety increases physical strength and flexibility tones the entire body
